The No. 46 player in our top-50 countdown of the Mountain West players is New Mexico Lobos kick returner/running back Chase Clayton. Clayton is more known for his return skill as he has received multiple preseason accolades for his return skills.
As a return man in 2012, Clayton averaged 30 yards per kick return and had a pair of touchdowns. His time on offense was limited with 32 carries for 209 yards, but that is a solid 6.53 yards per carry. The running back spot for New Mexico is deep with Kasey Carrier, Jhurell Pressley and one can also include quarterback Cole Gautsche. Clayton is behind all of those, so his way to make a name for himself is returning kicks and making plays whenever he gets the chance on offense.
