USC, New Mexico schedule a 2016 matchup

New Mexico is heading to the Los Angeles Coliseum to face USC in 2016

The USC Trojans went on a scheduling announcement spree on Wednesday, and one of the games included a matchup against the New Mexico Lobos. The game will be played on Sept. 3, 2016, and to a shock to no one, this is a road game for the Lobos. This will also be the first-ever meeting between these schools.

This is a key game for New Mexico to stay in the California market since in 2016 they are missing a trip to the Golden state that year:

"Opening the season with USC in 2016 will be a great opportunity for our football team," said Deputy Athletic Director Tim Cass. "We will not be playing Fresno State or San Diego State in 2016, so this game will provide us an opportunity to stay connected to California from a recruiting and alumni standpoint."

This will give New Mexico three out of their possible five non-conference games for that year. The others are a home game against Sam Houston State and a road tilt against rival New Mexico State. In 2016, New Mexico can play five non-conference games since they make the trek to Hawaii.
