2014 Wyoming football recruiting: Cowboys land local QB Austin Fort

There are not many Division I recruits which come out of the state of Wyoming, but when they do the Wyoming Cowboys do their best to keep them at home. That is exactly what Wyoming did when they landed a verbal commit from Gillette, Wyo., dual-threat quarterback Austin Fort.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound quarterback is the first commit for Wyoming in the 2014 class, and head coach Dave Christensen told Fort that he was excited that he was the first to commit to Wyoming.

It did not take long for Fort to verbally commit to Wyoming, he received the scholarship offer on Saturday will attending a camp, and then committed the following day. An offer looked real good for Fort as he stayed behind for a private workout with some other wide outs once the camp concluded.

Fort just fell in love with the program and feels that Wyoming's style of play fits his:

"The more I learned about the program, the more I really liked what they had going on there as well as the coaches," Fort added. "I think they have a great program and a really great offense that I would fit into well. I am super-excited to play for them."

In his junior year, Fort put up 2,137 yards and 13 touchdowns in the air, plus rushed for another 735 yards rushing to go along with 10 touchdowns in leading his high school team to a second place finish in Class 4-A. Assuming that Christensen is still the head coach for the next few years at Wyoming, Fort is a good fit with his combination of athleticism and throwing abilities.

Fort had interest from Central Florida, New Mexico State, and Illinois; he visited all of those schools in April, plus multiple trips to Wyoming.
