2013 NBA Draft: UNLV's Anthony Bennett expected to enter draft

UNLV freshman Anthony Bennett is expected to be a one-and-done player and enter the NBA Draft.

USA TODAY Sports

Looks like UNLV's Anthony Bennett is taking off to the NBA after spending just one year in the collegieate ranks. CBS Sports' Jeff Goodman is reporting that Bennett is expected to make the decision sometime in th upcoming week.

This is not a shock as Bennett was one of the top recruits from the 2012 recruiting class, Bennett was the nation's No. 7 overall recruit and the top power forward out of that class. In his one year with UNLV he led the team by scoring 16.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.

It is very likely that Bennett will be taken within the top five in the upcoming NBA Draft. ESPN's Chad Ford has Bennett as the fifth player on his big board. Goodman has Bennett going third overall in his latest mock draft and SB Nation has him going ninth.

Assuming Bennett is as good as gone, this creates a big loss at the forward position and one that UNLV will need address. They do have Savon Goodman who will be earning a lot more playing time, plus they get Roscoe Smith who is an incoming transfer from UConn, and will be eligible next year. Plus, they have power forward Christian Woods who is part of the 2013 recruiting class. Woods comes from local Findlay Prep and is a four-star recruit and rated as the nation's 36th player.

That combination of players should be able to make up for the loss of Bennett.
