Fresno State is not expected to make a run in the Mountain West tournament, but their odds decreased even more as starting center Robert Upshaw has been suspended for the entire tournament. The reason for Upshaw's suspension is unknown.
The former four-star center has been bothered by injuries and has vastly underachieved this year. For the year, Upshaw averaged 4.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in 16.4 minutes per game. Not much there for a player who was ranked as the nation's 52nd best player in the country, and at one point was committed to Kansas State.
Fresno State did just upset UNLV on their home court in the season finale to have some momentum heading into the tournament. However, the Bulldogs are just 5-11 in conference play and have to play Colorado State in their opening round game.
Their chances getting a win against a very good rebounding team in Colorado State was going to be tough with the 7-footer, but without him in the lineup Fresno State will struggle.
