College basketball rankings: Colorado State ranked for first time since 1954

The latest college basketball rankings are a mess at the top with multiple teams earning first place cotes. As for the Mountain West, they have three teams ranked from the AP and coaches poll

The latest college basketball polls have come out and the Mountain West is represented by three teams this week. The New Mexico is ranked No. 16 in the AP poll and No. 18 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Colorado State finally earns the respect of being voted in by the coaches and media, as they are ranked No. 24 in both polls. This is the first time that the Rams have been ranked in the AP poll since they were in the polls for four weeks all the way back in the 1953-54 basketball season.

Colorado State cracked their way after winning four straight, six of eight and also 13 of 15 games. That could change this week as they host San Diego State who is also in this weeks USA Today's Coaches Poll at No. 22.

UNLV is also getting some love in both polls in the others receiving votes section, but they are barely hanging on since they have been struggling as of late and have gone 3-3 over the last six games, including loses to Fresno State and Boise State.
