This post season there were 10 extra bowl eligible teams so there were going to be 10 teams who would be left sitting home during the bowl season. Within the Mountain West there were seven bowl eligible teams and six spots left, so again there was a chance a team could get left out.
A Mountain West team did get left out of the bowl scenario and that is very likely to be the 6-6 San Jose State, according to the San Jose Mercury News. Finishing the season with six did not help, but the Spartans did beat other bowl teams Colorado State, Fresno State and UNLV. However, the Spartans also blew fourth quarter leads to Navy and San Diego State, and somehow fell to Nevada.
Seeing San Jose State not in the post season is odd because all of the fingers pointed to San Diego State not heading to a bowl game, but the Aztecs did get selected to the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl where they will play Buffalo.
Had San Jose State earned a bowl game it would have been the second time in school history that San Jose State would have gone to back-to-back bowl games. This also means that star wide receiver Noel Grigsby will not get one final chance to suit up in an Spartan uniform.
