ESPN’s Joe Shad is reporting that Boise State head coach Chris Petersen is to be named head coach for the Washington Huskies on Friday and will be the highest paid coach in the PAC12 conference.
The Huskies were looking for a replacement for Steve Sarkisian, who has accepted the head coaching position at USC. Petersen has been at Boise State for 13 years, and took over as the Broncos head coach in 2006, amassing a remarkable record of 92-12. Petersen’s name has continually come in coaching circles as a candidate for Stanford, UCLA, USC, as well as the earlier Washington position back in 2009.
Missouri coach Gary Pinkel and Alabama offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier were also on Washington’s short list. Nussmier interviewed on Thursday while Pinkel withdrew his name from consideration.
By contract Petersen will still coach the Broncos in their bowl game this year.
