Redshirt sophomore running back Kapri Bibbs declared his intentions to enter the 2014 NFL Draft on Sunday, after just one season at the FBS level. Bibbs was one of the best running backs in the country with 31 rushing touchdowns and finished 12th in the nation in rushing yards per game at 124. The amazing thing about those stats are that he did not became the full time starter until the fifth game of this season.
Despite having two years left of eligibility this is a good move for Bibbs mainly because Colorado State is losing four of their five offensive lineman, including center Weston Richburg who is rated as one of the best in this draft class. There is not much more Bibbs could do to improve on his 2013 numbers, and add in a rebuilt offensive line makes the choice easier.
Bibbs' mother, Stacey Griffin, confirmed her son is heading to the draft, and she elaborated on the decision for Bibbs to go pro:
"He knows running back's lives are short," she said. "He knows that he's young, thanks God for no serious injury. He knows he has a short term, and he wants to go into the NFL with 100 percent health, not just a piece of him.
"I think he wants to stay at Colorado State. I think just as equally he understands that sometimes you have to make an educated decision, and no matter how much he loves Colorado State and how much he wants to be at Colorado State, for his family and his future -- anything else he decides to go further in his life -- time is ticking."
The upcoming NFL Draft is not littered with top running back talent and as of now there are no projected backs to go in the first round, making the decision a bit easier. Meaning that Bibbs has a better chance to be taken higher then had he waited a year or two to enter the NFL. Plus, there is plenty of time for him to impress scouts and coaches through all of the pre-draft workouts and interviews.
