Utah State forward Jarred Shaw has been suspended from the basketball team by head coach Stew Merrill since Dec. 16, and the reason was for a violation of team rules. Shaw leads the 9-2 Aggies in scoring, rebounds and blocked shots so losing him for a prolonged amount of time will make the transition from the WAC to Mountain West play quite difficult.
More news came out on Sunday that the the reason for Shaw's suspension most likely stems from the forward being arrested on felony drug distribution.
The substance in question is marijuana and Logan, Utah, Assistant Police Chief Jeff Curtis said the amount was "more than personal use." Shaw also was charged with a class A misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia as well as a class B misdemeanor which involves contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Shaw has his initial court appearance his schedule for Monday at 11:30 a.m. ET.
