The San Diego St. Aztecs are ranked 24th in the AP Top 25 men's basketball poll which was released on Dec. 2. By defeating previously ranked No. 20 Creighton on Friday and then No. 25 Marquette, they pushed both of these Big East teams out of the poll. The Aztecs are among others receiving votes for the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Going into the Wooden Legacy tournament, Creighton and Marquette were ranked and Arizona State and George Washington were among others receiving votes. The Aztecs leaped over all of them on their way to capturing the inaugural Wooden Legacy crown.

In addition, Thames was named the national player of the week by CBSSports.com and NBCSports.com. Teammate Josh Davis was also named to the all-tournament team.
