2013 Mountain West all-conference awards: Derek Carr wins offensive POY

The Mountain West conference released their all-conference award with Fresno State leading the way nine players making the first- or second-team.

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

The Mountain West released their 2013 all-conference teams for the football season, and it should come as no surprise that Fresno State had nine players make the all-conference teams to lead the league; including Derek Carr being named the offensive player of the year award. Defensive player of the year was Colorado State linebacker Shaquil Barrett and he had a monster season this year for the Rams who had 20.5 tackles for a loss and 12 sacks,

Utah State and Boise State came in second with seven players on the all-league list. Six of the seven Utah State players were on the defensive side with four making the second-team and just two on the first-team.

Aggies head coach Matt Wells was named the coach of the year, and that had to be a very difficult choice to make. Wells did a great job by making the title game after losing star quarterback Chuckie Keeton and multiple other starting players throughout the year. The coach of the year award could have easily gone to Bobby Hauck who led UNLV to their first bowl game in 13 years or Jim McElwain turning around Colorado State to a bowl game in just his second year.
