Air Force is having open quarterback competition between Karson Roberts, Nate Romine

Air Force could be getting quarterback Karson Roberts back in the lineup against Notre Dame.

Air Force has been struck by quarterback issues ranging from injuries to suspensions, and for the first time in a long time the quarterback situation will not be decided by who is the healthiest. Karson Roberts is the third-string quarterback for Air Force and has started three games, but that third start against San Diego State ended very early with a concussion.

Roberts did not practice at all during the teams bye week, and retook to the practice field this week, and he will be in competition with freshman Nate Romine, who nearly led Air Force to a victory of San Diego State.

Head coach Troy Calhoun will go with the player that has the best week of practice. "We'll see who practices best the next two days, just because Karson did not practice last week," Calhoun told the Colorado Springs-Gazette.

Calhoun will not just go with Roberts just because he has started a few games, in the loss to San Diego State Romine completed 5 of 11 passes for 111 yards with a touchdown and an interception, plus he rushed for another 15 yards.

With the Falcons being 1-6 on the year and clinging to dear life for a bowl berth if they can upset Notre Dame, Calhoun must go with who is performing the best under center.
