San Diego St. up, New Mexico down in Top 25 polls

The San Diego St. Aztecs rose and are ranked in both national polls while the New Mexico Lobos fell in the national polls released Monday. MW Connection has the word on both the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN Coaches polls out Monday.

The San Diego St. Aztecs awoke to good news Monday morning while the New Mexico Lobos likely breathed a sigh of relief as they were not punished much for their 55-34 loss at SDSU Saturday.

The Lobos remains the top Mountain West Conference team In Monday's Associated Press poll at No. 20 with 333 votes, falling five spots following the loss in San Diego.

The Aztecs reclaimed their position in Monday's poll moving up to No. 22 from their unofficial ranking of No. 31 in last week's poll with 302 votes. It was the second largest move of any team in the AP poll this week (the Miami Hurricanes moved up 11 spots from No. 25 to No. 14 after their defeat of then No. 1 Duke).

The UNLV Runnin' Rebels remained unofficially ranked at No. 27 with 56 votes while the Colorado St. Rams are unofficially last in the poll at No. 31with just one vote. The Rams rallied from a 20 point deficit but eventually lost 66-61 to UNM Wednesday then won 74-63 on the road at Fresno St.

The Rebels defeated Wyoming 62-50 in Las Vegas Thursday and did not play Saturday.

In Monday's coaches poll, San Diego St. moved up five spots to No. 20 garnering 171 votes while New Mexico fell five spots to No. 22, receiving 159 votes.UNLV stayed unofficially at No. 27 with 32 votes and Colorado St. landed at No. 35 unofficially with six votes.

After several weeks of receiving votes, Wyoming received no votes in either poll this week. In addition to their loss at UNLV, the Cowboys lost to the Air Force Falcons 57-48 at home.

The Michigan Wolverines claimed the No. 1 spot in the AP poll, while the Kansas Jayhakws nabbed the top spot in the Coaches poll. The Wolverines landed at No. 2 at in the Coaches poll, while the Jayhawks took the No. 2 spot in the AP poll. The rest of the top five is identical with the Indiana Hooisers at No. 3, the Florida Gators at No. 4 and the Duke Blue Devils at No. 5.
