2013 college football rankings: Fox Sports has Boise State at No. 13

Fox Sports places Boise State in the top-15 of their very early 2013 college football rankings.

So far all of the major publications have Boise State ranked for the 2013 season, and the latest is Fox Sports which has the Broncos ranked No. 13 in their early rankings for next season.

The Broncos' move to the Big East fizzled, and Boise State is headed back to the Mountain West. The Broncos will be a heavy favorite to win the conference title next season but will be pushed by Fresno State and Utah State. As expected, the Broncos took a step back on offense in 2012. However, quarterback Joe Southwick got better as the year progressed, and Jay Ajayi should be a capable replacement for D.J. Harper at running back.

The offensive line is a concern with only two starters returning, while the receiving corps is stocked with Matt Miller, Kirby Moore and Geraldo Boldewijn back in the mix. Despite having only one returning starter on defense, Boise State allowed just 15.8 points a game in 2012. This unit needs to replace cornerbacks Jamar Taylor and Jerrell Gavins, but expect the Broncos to rank among the MWC's best defenses again in 2013.

Having them ranked at No. 13 is a bit high in my opinion, but it is feasible that they could end the season that high, since they do not have an overly demanding schedule.

The defense will be the best in the Mountain West, if not the nation, and if that is the case then they will be nearly impossible to stop.

That is assuming that the offense should be much more improved with a year under the belt of the younger players who were getting their first year of FBS action under their belt in 2012. Also, for the first time in a few seasons Boise State will have the same offensive coordinator year to year, and that could possibly allow the offense to get back on track to what the Broncos are used to producing.
