The post-spring top-25s are making the rounds now that spring practice is over, and CBSSports.com is the latest to have their rankings updated. These are done by Dennis Dodd and to the surprise of no one Boise State is ranked in his latest top-25.
Dodd predicts Boise State to just miss out on a BCS bowl despite placing them at No. 17:
The most valuable piece below the Mendoza Line wisely picked the Mountain West to stay in/return to. This MWC is tougher for Chris Petersen as a 12-team league but it arguably has more juice than the American Athletic Conference in the playoff era. Don't expect a BCS bowl this season but expect eight to 10 wins while quarterback Joe Southwick becomes the next good/great one for the Broncos.
Here is the thing about predicting Boise State to miss out on a BCS bowl game, placing them at 17 has them right on the edge of earning a big money game. If Dodd really things Boise State is going to not make a BCS bowl game then why have them ranked in the top-20, makes no sense to me.
Also, only eight to 10 wins? A returning starter in quarterback Joe Southwick should be able to lead the team to double-digits, again.
Boise State did lose running back D.J. Harper and cornerback Jamar Taylor to the NFL, but Boise State is known for bouncing back after losing players. The 2012 team was to be to take a large downturn with losing double-digit starters, but they won the league again.
Dodd is covering both base here, saying Boise State is a top-20 but not quite good enough to earn a BCS bowl, well guess we will all find out in about seven months.
