2014 Mountain West Tournament: Halftime Update - San Diego State 36, Utah State 15

LAS VEGAS – The Aztecs are making a push for the conference record set by Boise State last night.

Xavier Thames and Winston Shepard are already in double digits as the Aztecs have absolutely dominated this matchup.  The Aztecs defense cracked down on Utah State, forcing them to start the game 0-8 from the field.  The Aggies did not score their first field goal until 13:37 left in the first half.

Even after those first points were scored, every basket came difficult for the Aggies. Utah State is currently shooting 25% from the field, and even struggling from the charity line, only making 5-8.

Jarred Shaw has kept himself out of foul trouble for the Aggies, and by doing so, been the most effective player for Utah State, scoring eight points.  No other Aggie player has more than two points.  For the Aztecs, Shepard is leading with 11 points and Thames has 10.  San Diego State is shooting 51.7% as a whole, and if they continue on that trend, they will break the conference record with no problems.
