2013-14 Mountain West Men's Basketball All-Conference Awards
Following the win over New Mexico for the Mountain West regular season title, the San Diego State Aztecs received four of the big six conference awards.
San Diego State senior guard Xavier Thames was recognized as Player of the Year. Thames was among league leaders in six categories for conference-only games. He was first in steals and third in free throw shooting percentage. He scored in double figures in 15 of the 18 conference games and had 20 or more points in seven of the games. Thames was also named to the All-Defensive team.
UNLV junior forward Khem Birch was recognized as Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row. He matched a league record 69 blocked shots in conference play. Birch averaged 10.6 rebounds per game and had at least one block in all 18 conference games.
Newcomer of the Year went to San Diego State forward Josh Davis. The Tulane transfer made the most of his one and only year in an Aztec uniform. He had eight double-figure rebounding games in conference and finished with a 9.1 average of rebounds per game and 7.4 points per game.
Fresno State Paul Watson received Freshman of the Year honors. The guard/forward started all 18 MW games for the Bulldogs. He was the league's leading freshman in rebounding and was second in scoring and blocked shots. He scored in double figures in seven games and had a season average of 8.6 points per game.
The Sixth Man of the Year award went to Dwayne Polee II of San Diego State. The transfer from St. John's played in his second season for the Aztecs. He averaged 6.7 points and 2.9 rebounds in 16.9 minutes in conference action.
SDSU head coach Steve Fisher earned MW Coach of the Year honors after leading his team to their fourth Mountain West regular season crown. The Aztecs were picked to finish fourth in conference after losing two-thirds of their scoring from a year ago to graduation and the NBA. Fisher picked up his 300th win at San Diego State earlier this season.
