When you look at this game on paper it should be a comfortable win for the Rams but when the game first tipped off it looked like it was going to be a blowout in favor of Fresno State. It turned out to be the original thought.
Fresno State started out fast racing to a 6-1 lead then Colorado State called timeout. Then raced out to a 12-4 lead lead by players Cezar Guerrero, and Karachi Edu. The Rams went on a 12-0 run afterwards lead by JJ Avila, and Gerson Santo to take the lead and running away with it. The Rams ended up going on a 21-2 run over 6:36 in the first half to take a double digit lead with a little over seven minutes left in the first half. The Rams played suffocating defense throughout the half and made shots racing out to a 38-27 lead at halftime.
The second half was much of the same only allowing the Bulldogs to get within six. Every player who played key minutes made a contribution. Whether it was Jon Octeus scoring 19 points along with going 3-3 from three point range, or David Cohn dishing out key assists off the bench. The Rams cruised to a 76-57 win closing on a 12-0 run. Avila scored 13 points and 17 rebounds scoring his 1,000th career point along the way. Daniel Bejarano scoring 19 points and 7 rebounds as well which are identical to Octeus.
This was the most complete game The Rams had played all season it will take more games like this if they are going to make a run towards a postseason tournament. The Rams will take on a very good Utah State team who is a conference newcomer. That game will be on Wednesday January 15th at 7:05 p.m. MT and it will be streamed on Mountain West Network. Fresno State will have a brutal match up against #13 San Diego State also on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. PT on ESPN 3.
