The first week of the Mountain West football season is in the books and the league sent out their weekly awards for players of the week. The big winner is the Colorado St. Rams who took home the defensive player of the week award and the special teams player of the week.
The defensive award went to freshman linebacker Cory James. James had seven total tackles, including six of those being solo take downs and he also forced a fumble. In addition to that the freshman had three sacks and four tackles for loss. The three sacks were the most ever by a Colorado State player in their first career game. It looks like the Colorado State defense is going to be ok after losing multiple defensive players during the offseason.
The special teams player of the week was Rams kicker, Jared Roberts who scored 10 points in his first collegiate game. Roberts made all three field goals and were from 47, 47 and 32 yards. He did miss one extra point which was blocked.
The offensive player of the week went to Nevada Wolf Pack running back Stefphon Jefferson who had career highs with 147 yards and three touchdowns in their win over Cal.
