A quick look at Hawaii's game against foe BYU Cougars

Hawaii travels to the main land to go up against a formal WAC rival.

Kirby Lee-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Who: Hawaii Warriors(1-2, 0-1 MW) vs. BYU Cougars(2-2)

When: Friday, September 28 at 6:00pm MT

Where:LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah

TV: ESPN

All I can say upfront is that the Warriors will have a huge uphill battle with the BYU Cougars. After a blowout loss at home and a short week to play on national TV again against a loud Cougar crowd on Friday night primetime, nothing on paper looks good for Hawai'i.

BYU Head Coach: Bronco Mendenhall enters his 8th year as the head coach for the Cougars with a record of 68-26 leading them every year to a bowl game(5-2).

Series Meeting:This the the 29th meeting between the two school with BYU leading the series 20-8. Hawai'i has never won in Provo going 0-8 all time.

Let's look at the BYU Cougars...They are currently riding a two game losing streak, losing to Utah on a missed game tying field goal 24-21. Then the offense had their foot off the gas and only produced six points in a 7-6 loss to Boise State last week.

On offense... Riley Nelson is the backbone in this offense. The Senior QB has 64 completions for 754 yards with five touchdowns and five interceptions in four games. His main weapons are junior WR Cody Hoffman who has 21 receptions for 302 yards and two touchdowns. In the back junior RB Michael Alisa has 56 carries for 210 and a touchdown.

On defense...Remember this name Brandon Ogletree because you will hear it being called in the game all night long. The senior linebacker has a team leading 35 tackles. Another stud linebacker is junior Kyle Van Noy who is currently 13th in the nation in sacks with 4.5. The linebackers and the defensive ends will give Hawai'i QB Sean Schroeder trouble by rushing him and disguising him with mixed covers to make him have bad throws.

Hawaii's injury report:The Warriors lost DL Moses Samia two weeks ago in the Lamar game. It was confirmed it was a torn ACL and he will miss the rest of the season. "X" receiver Darius Bright is still out after a separated AC joint. He did not practice this week. Two players who did practice this week are RB Joey Iosepa and punter Alex Dunnachie. Iosepa had an ankle injury in the Lamar game and was game time for the Nevada game but did not play.

He is about 90 percent and will travel with the Warriors. Also punter Dunnachie who was suspended for a DUI charge in the summer has served his four game suspension and will travel with the Warriors to Provo. Coach Chow said playing Dunnachie will be a "game time decision" with a smirk on his face. The Warriors will definately need him if the offense is stagnant again.
