The Boise St. Broncos defeated the BYU Cougars 7-6 in an epic defensive battle, and who would have thought that this game between BYU and Boise State would result in so few points.
The BYU offense was horrible in the first half as starting quarter Riley Nelson was benched after going 4-of-9 for 19 yards and he threw three interceptions. Overall BYU turned the ball over five times, yet the Boise State offense scored zero points off of turnovers.
The only touchdown for Boise State was when Michael Atkinson intercepted Nelson to put the Broncos up 7-0. Boise State had a chance to go up 14-0 when they recovered a Mike Alisa fumble inside BYU's 5-yard line, but on 4th-and-goal at the 1-yard line they were stuffed.
Backup quarterback Taysom Hill for BYU drove the ball down the field and found wide receiver Cody Hoffman on a key 4th-and-3 play to keep the drive alive. Then BYU scored a touchdown when Hill scored on a 4-yard rush, and then down by one point BYU decided to go for two and Atkinson came up big again for Boise State as he flushed Hill out of the pocket and the ball was tipped Demarcus Lawerence
Boise State then just ran the clock out to win.
