The Air Force Falcons have released their depth chart for their first game against Idaho State, and all but five positions have been accounted for. The surprise position battle is the running back spot where the leading returning rusher Wes Cobb has not bee named the starter, but instead he is in a three-way battle with Cody Getz and Jon Lee.
There should not be too much of a concern with that because it could just be a tactic by head coach Troy Calhoun to have the players still compete for the starting gig into the regular season. Plus, with this season opener being against a FCS foe will allow each to have multiple carries. After the first week there should likely be a firm grasp at who is the top back, but even once a starter is named there will be plenty of chances for the backups to earn carries.
The other positions all come on the defensive side of the ball and the biggest one involves freshman Alexander Hansen who is battling Nick Fitzgerald for the starting defensive end spot. If Hansen gets the start he would be the first Air Force player freshman to start on the defensive side of the ball since Alex Means did it back in 1981.
