The Air Force Falcons are one of the few non-major programs that can consistently land home games against top notch opponents. The latest is the addition of hosting the Notre Dame Fighting Irish who will be coming to Falcons Stadium in 2013 for a likely late September game.
There was talk of hosting the game at Sport Authority Field, which is the home of the Denver Broncos, but senior associate athletic director Jim Trego decided against that and wanted the game on campus in front of their home fans. Notre Dame did visit Air Force at the Falcons home stadium back in 2006 which the Irish won 39-17, so there is precedent in playing this game on campus.
Notre Dame and Air Force have played each other two times since 2006, with the other two games being at Notre Dame in 2007 and 2011. This 2013 game is a great opportunity for Air Force to get a marquee win, especially since Notre Dame is expected to be really good next year, well that is if you believe the annual hype about the Irish.
