Nevada Loses Wide Receiver Nigel Westbrooks Tears ACL, Out For 2012 Season

The Nevada Wolf Pack offense took a big hit when it was discovered that junior college transfer wide receiver Nigel Westbrooks tore his ACL in a seven-on-seven drill during a summer work out. Westbrooks will have surgery on Friday to repair the torn ligaments and will miss the entire 2012 season.

The wide receiver position was a point of emphasis for the Wolf Pack this season, and Westbrook was to come in and vie for a starting spot this fall. This past season at Palomar Community College, Westbrooks 52 passes for 729 yards and 11 touchdowns last year.

Nevada now has only three wide receivers who are on scholarship for the fall now that Westbrooks is out. The three returning players are Brandon Wimberly who missed 2011 after being shot in the abdomen but in 2010 he had 41 receptions for 482 yards; Aaron Bradley, who had 28 catches as a redshirt freshman last season; and Necho Beard who has one career catch.

Nevada did sign five wide receivers in their 2012 class and now some of those will have to learn on the fly and will likely see the field earlier than expected.
