Boise State Finally Sends Out Press Release About Leaving Mountain West

Boise State finally released a statement about their intent to leave the Mountain West and go to the Big East to play football beginning in the fall of 2013. Also, as expected Boise State is still working with the Big West to find a landing spot for their other sports.

Here is the press release:

Boise State University announced today that it is remaining as a football only member of the Big East Conference and is in ongoing, substantive discussions with the Big West Conference to be the home for the majority of its Olympic sports.

Consistent with these discussions, the Big West announced today that it will hold a meeting of its Presidents prior to the start of the coming academic year for a final decision on Boise State's membership in the Big West beginning July 1, 2013.

"There is no doubt that conference affiliation is a difficult and complex issue, but I am very pleased where we stand today and excited for the future prospects of all of our Bronco sports," commented Boise State President Dr. Bob Kustra.

Now there is a deadline for Boise State's non-football sports, and it comes as a surprise that the Big West will make a decision prior to knowing what Boise State will earn from the Big East's new television contract. It would make sense for the Big West to decide after that amount is known, because for one of the few times in league history they hold all the cards.
