2012 Mountain West Conference Tournament: The Overused 'If The Tournament Began Today'

There is one last game in the Mountain West basketball season and the tournament seeding is way up in the air, and many things can change after Saturday's contest. Over at TheMWC.com they put together an indepth breakdown of how schools fare if they tie, and it is lengthy. As of right now here is how the first round of the Mountain West tournament would be seeded.

No. 1 San Diego St. Aztecs -- They get top seed even though they are tied with New Mexico at 9-4, because they swept TCU while New Mexico went 1-1.
No. 2 New Mexico Lobos
No. 3 UNLV Runnin' Rebels
No. 4 Colorado St. Rams -- They get No. 4 seed due to better RPI than TCU, this is after going down the tie-breaking procedures quite a bit.
No. 5 TCU Horned Frogs
No. 6 Wyoming Cowboys
No. 7 Air Force Falcons -- Falcons get No. 7 due to split with San Diego State
No. 8 Boise St. Broncos

Here is how the first round would play out if the tournament began today:

No. 1 San Diego St vs. No. 8 Boise State 3 p.m. ET The Mtn. HD
No. 4 Colorado State vs. No. 5 TCU 5:30 p.m. ET The Mtn. HD/CBS Sports Network
No. 2 New Mexico vs. No. 7 Air Force 9 p.m. ET The Mtn. HD
No. 3 UNLV vs. No. 6 Wyoming 11:30 p.m. ET The Mtn. HD/CBS Sports Network

I assume those notice the HD next to The Mtn., so yes the games on the Mtn. will be in HD which is a good thing. However, not good enough as the regular season should be in HD as well. Also, the bracket will probably look nothing like this come Saturday afternoon, so here is how I predict the seeding will play out.

No. 1 New Mexico Lobos
No. 2 San Diego St. Aztecs -- I predict TCU will pull off another home upset.
No. 3 UNLV Runnin' Rebels
No. 4 Colorado St. Rams
No. 5 TCU Horned Frogs
No. 6 Wyoming Cowboys
No. 7 Air Force Falcons
No. 8 Boise St. Broncos

Actually there is little movement, and could be none because I am going out on a limb by saying TCU will be San Diego State at home. Also, watch out for the Colorado State and Air Force game, the Rams have not been very good on the road so that could be a potential loss. However, the only thing that would change would be the jersey that the Rams would where by being the No. 5 seed instead of the No. 4 seed.
