NCAA Bracketology: Mountain West Has Four Teams In, Wyoming Among First Four Out

A wild weekend in Mountain West hoops with the Wyoming upsetting the UNLV 68-66 to make the Mountain West race an interesting one to watch down the stretch. With that win only two games separate the top five spots with conference play nearly half way over.

Mountain West Conference Standings

(updated 2.6.2012 at 12:59 AM MST)

Conf Overall
San Diego St. Aztecs 6 1 20 3
UNLV Runnin' Rebels 5 2 21 4
New Mexico Lobos 5 2 19 4
Wyoming Cowboys 4 3 18 5
Colorado St. Rams 4 3 15 7
TCU Horned Frogs 3 4 13 9
Air Force Falcons 1 6 11 10
Boise St. Broncos 0 7 10 12

Prior to the season the Mountain West was looking to get three teams in the NCAA tournament but with some upsets along the way there could be as many as five teams to make the NCAA tournament which would be a league record.

SB Nation's bracketology has four Mountain West team in the tourney and Wyoming is one of the first four teams out:

No. 3 UNLV
No. 5 San Diego State
No. 9 New Mexico
No. 11 Colorado State

Five teams getting into the tournament from this league is unlikely. UNLV and San Diego State are nearly locks and New Mexico is close, but if they make it to the semifinals of the conference tournament they are likely in. So the only way likely would be for Wyoming and Colorado State making it to the final of the Mountain West tournament. However, my gut says that it will be only San Diego State, UNLV and New Mexico who make it in.
