The Air Force Falcons are down their second defensive coordinator in three years with Matt Wallerstedt leaving his post at Air Force to coach the linebackers with the Texas A&M Aggies. That seems like a step down from being a defensive coordinator, but it is a step up in terms of the school and league. Wallerstedt had been the defensive coordinator for the past two years, but his performance was making fans unhappy. This past season the Air Force defense was 65th in yards allowed and 72nd in points allowed nationally.
With Wallerstedt off to Texas A&M, Air Force is promoting from within by promoting defensive backs coach Charlton Warren. Warren is an Air Force graduate and has been on the staff for the past seven years, and officially he was the co-defensive coordinators but the play calling went to Wallerstedt.
Other staff shuffling happened with these two moves with Brad White being promoted to the inside linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator. Wallerstedt was the prior linebackers coach and Warren was the recruiting coordinator.
