Two of the Fresno State Bulldogs' projected starters and key contributors are out indefinitely and may miss the opener on November 9 at Texas, according to the Fresno Bee. Incoming freshman Robert Upshaw, a 7-foot center and consensus top-100 recruit, is down with a leg injury suffered in practice.
Upshaw was the centerpiece of an excellent recruiting class that Coach Rodney Terry pulled in last year. With him out the center position will likely fall to 6-10 freshman Tanner Giddings. Returning SG Kevin Olekaibe, the team's leading scorer last year with 17.8 points per game, is also injured. Olekaibe is farther along to returning, according to Terry, but could still miss the opener.
This is not a good development for a team that will be taking a step up in competition from the WAC to the Mountain West, especially as another heralded recruit Braeden Andersen will likely not be eligible until partway through the season.
