BCS Rankings, Week 9: Boise State moves up to No. 21

The Boise St. Broncos moved up just one spot from No. 22 to No. 21 in the Week 9 BCS standings. The projections earlier on Sunday thought Boise State would be No. 19, but that was not the case as the computers did not like them this week.

In last weeks rankings, Boise State had a computer average of .240, but after their 32-7 win over UNLV their computer average sunk to .08. Three of the computers dropped the Broncos outside of the top 25. Had Boise State's computer average been the same they would have been ranked No. 19.

UNLV is rated very lowly which is why for the drop, despite in a blowout win, remember computers do not count margin of victory. The strength of schedule does not get too much better, as the the only teams with winning records left are San Diego State and Nevada. The Nevada game lost some luster since they lost to San Diego State.

However, the good news is that they are still ahead of Michigan who entered the BCS at No. 22. The human polls are the reason why Boise State is ahead of Michigan. The computer percentage for Michigan is .220, and that will keep this race between the two teams close.

Boise State just needs to keep winning, and create some separation in the human polls, because the computer rankings will continue to hurt Boise State due to their remaining schedule. All Boise State can control is to keep winning, and hope they can move into the top 16. Plus, they need Michigan, or whoever wins the Big Ten, to stay at No. 16 or below if they want to earn a BCS berth.
