While Wyoming's quarterback situation is up in the air for 2011, they maybe getting an experienced quarterback for 2012 and beyond by way of former Missouri quarterback Tyler Gabbert. Gabbert did enroll briefly at Louisville before deciding to leave the program and now according to Peter Fleischer who is a journalist based out of Columbina, Mo., is reporting that Gabbert is close to choosing Wyoming:
Just heard Tyler Gabbert to #Wyoming "almost a done deal". This from the same source who knew of Louisville move.!#Mizzou #CFB
This would be a big grab for Wyoming.
Over at Cowboy Altitude they suggested months ago that Gabbert could head to Wyoming due to the familiarity of Christensen's system. If Gabbert does choose Wyoming he will not be eligible until 2012 where he would be a redshirt sophomore and have three years of eligibility.
Gabbert should be able to compete for the starting spot in 2012 and provide depth for the quarterback position for the next few years. Out of high school Gabbert was a four-star recruit across the board by all the major recruiting sites, and would be a great addition to help Wyoming move up the pecking order in the Mountain West.
