UNLV Will Not Make A Decision On New Basketball Coach Until Sunday At The Earliest

New, 2 comments

UNLV Athletic Director Jim Livengood is not going to make any decision on who will be the next UNLV Rebel basketball coach until Sunday at the earliest. LIvengood is hoping to be able to have a choice made and have a press conference on Monday afternoon.

The four choices are Reggie Theus, Dave Rice, Ernie Kent and Mike Dunlap; however in reality Rice and Theus are the top two candidates and I would be shocked if it was not one of those two.

Getting a coach in place is huge for recruiting since the Rebels are in the running for some highly rated high school recruits. Las Vegas high school Bishop Gorman had a 90-minute workout on the first day that contact could be made by college coaches.

UNLV has their eye on Shabazz MuhammadBen Carter and Rosco Allen. Muhammad is the highest rated of the three as he is a five-star recruit through Rivals, he is the nation's number three prospect overall and has offers from nearly every major basketball power. Allen is a four-star recruit, he is the nations 23rd rated prospect and has a similar amount of offers as Muhammad. As for Carter, he is not as highly rated and has offers from Utah State, New Mexico, UNLV, Nevada and Santa Clara.

The good news for UNLV fans is that Muhammad said he likes both Theus and Rice as an option for a head coach due to their uptempo style of plus. Also, it did not hurt to have over 60 UNLV fans at the open workout lobbying for Muhammad's services.
