2011 NFL Draft: Nevada's Colin Kaepernick taken 36th overall by the San Francisco 49ers

Right after Andy Dalton was taken off the board by the Cincinnati Bengals, the San Francisco 49ers traded up for the 36th pick and selected Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick is the first of four Wolfpack who are expected to be taken off the board either today or tomorrow.

The 49ers most certainly needed a quarterback after the Alex Smith experiment officially failed and Troy Smith didn't work out. Kaepernick moved up quickly on draft boards after his performance at the NFL Combine left a positive image in many team's minds.

The only reason I could think of that the 49ers traded up was because Arizona was sitting there at 38th overall and the Cardinals were in need of a quarterback as well.

Kaepernick should bring an extra dynamic to the 49ers offense with his running game and that may be just what the 49ers were missing.
