Wyoming Quarterback Situation May Become More Clear With Today's Scrimmage

The big question this spring for the Wyoming Cowboy football team is to find a new quarterback since Austin Carta-Samuels transfered (MWC link) back in January. The competition for the starter is currently between redshirt freshman quarterback Emory Miller Jr. and true freshman Brett Smith and later on true freshman Adam Pittser will also have a shot at the starting job. However, this spring head coach Dave Christensen has forbidden Miller or Smith to talk to the media.

However, defensive back Kenny Browder talked about the two quarterbacks and their play:

"Emory is really shifty. I've seen him shake a couple of linemen out there. It kind of makes me mad, but it's good to see we have some moves back there. Brett is showing some ACS (former quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels) out there. A little show-and-go."

With the spread offense that Wyoming runs, the qualities that Browder is talking about should be expected from both quarterbacks. Today is a big day for the Wyoming quarterback situation Saturday morning is the first full scrimmage, and will be the first chance we get to see both quarterback's in a full scrimmage scenario.

One interesting player to keep an eye on is true freshman Mark Nzeocha who came from Germany and comes in at 6-3, 220 pounds and was initially listed as a safety prior to spring drills, but has been taking snaps at middle linebacker. This is just an interesting story how Wyoming found a recruit half-way across the world.
