This game has been rumored for some time, but it is now official that TCU will take on BYU at Cowboys Stadium on October 28. The game will be broadcast on ESPN 2 with an 8 p.m. eastern kickoff. During the summer TCU head coach Gary Patterson was not too happy about BYU going independent and the route they took to get there:
TCU coach Gary Patterson once flatly said that he would not consider playing BYU after news that the Cougars were leaving the Mountain West Conference leaked out last August.
Whoops.
Football scheduling is done by the athletic directors and not the coaches, and since TCU needed games this is a good chance to face off against a name opponent that is expected to be above average. The comments Patterson made this summer were most likely made out of frustration for how BYU left the league.
TCU needs a solid opponent since it looks like their other non-conference games are Louisiana-Monroe, Portlands State, Baylor and SMU. Adding BYU is a good thing to help give TCU an above average opponent.
