Air Force of old shows up in sloppy win for UNLV.
Tre'Von Willis led all scorers with 13 points and added 4 assists in a defensive struggle by both sides. Willis was the only player for the Runnin' Rebels to score double digits as the next higher scorer had eight points. The scoring situation was almost the same for the Falcons who had two scoreres sitting at 12 points, but no one else in double digits.
Air Force held a 23-22 halftime lead over the host Runnin' Rebels, but UNLV widened the gap in the second half and Air Force couldn't recover. Although no player had particularly good stats, both teams played great team defense.
Hopefully that defense continues over into UNLV's next game against Colorado State. Mainly because that was definitely an area where the Runnin' Rebels had trouble last time against the Rams. Unfortunately, defense isn't the only ingredient in a winning formula. The UNLV offense will have to get it together and show up against a very good offensive team in CSU if they plan to win in a hostile environment at Moby Arena.
UNLV's next game is at Colorado State on Saturday.
Air Force's next game is at home against San Diego State.
