Game Recap: UNLV offense shines in 94-79 victory over TCU

Chace Stanback and Tre'Con Willis combine for 47 points in win over TCU

Quintrell Thomas had 14 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Oscar Bellfield had 13 points to go along with 6 assists, but the real eye-opener was how well Chace Stanback and Tre'Von Willis played together. Stanback had 24 points and Willis had 23 in the first game where both players were productive scorers.

Before a shameful crowd of 236, TCU jumped out on the Runnin' Rebels to a 9-0 lead. UNLV regained the lead around midway through the first half and increased it at halftime to 47-35. The Runnin' Rebels easily handled the Horned Frogs in the second half, cruising to an easy 94-79 win.

UNLV's guards and Quintrell Thomas really carried the team through this game. Oscar Bellfield, Tre'Von Willis, Chace Stanback, and Quintrell Thomas all combined for 74 of the teams 94 points. Anthony Marshall wasn't the scorer that he had been in the past couple of games, but he did tie for a game-high 6 assists. Carlos Lopez and Brice Massmaba were both useless, but that could have been more due to their shortage of court time. Each had only 8 minutes and neither really racked up any stats.

Seeing Tre'Von Willis and Chace Stanback play well together is great news, especially since neither one had been doing particularly well. Quintrell Thomas has shown why Coach Kruger had him starting at the beginning of the season. Thomas now has his second double-double in his past 3 games and has really been a threat down low - something UNLV lacked in the past.

The sad part about this game is that unless you were at the game (One of 236) or live in Las Vegas, you couldn't follow the game live. The Mtn. was scheduled to have TCU students do a production of the game for tape-delay, but with the TCU campus closing earlier in the day due to weather, The Mtn. just canceled the production of the game altogether. There really was no excuse for that happening since the MWC has 3 TV deal partners, 2 that do weekday games.

UNLV takes on San Diego State at home on Saturday and tickets are going fast. I last checked at about 10:00 A.M. PT and they were almost entirely gone.
