2011 Independence Bowl Not Expected To Have A Mountain West Team

Now this is a surprise unexpected as Boise State and TCU are not expected to be going to a BCS bowl game. The Independence Bowl is to feature the Mountain West No. 3 team vs. the No. 7 ACC team and with the Mountain West having five bowl eligible teams it seems odd that the Independence Bowl would not have a Mountain West team. It would seem unlikely that a bowl would not want to oblige with their contract with the league, well unless there is some exchange or back room deal to allow bowls to make a swap.

KOMU8-TV's Eric Blumberg is reporting that the Missouri Tigers will face the North Carolina Tar Heels in the Independence Bowl:

Eric Blumberg@BlumbergOTB Confirmed #Mizzou vs. North Carolina in the Independence Bowl on Dec. 26th.

With the Air Force Falcons looking to make a deal to go to the Military Bowl this could mean that perhaps the San Diego St. Aztecs are trying to make a deal to go to the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl which is played in San Francisco. Another option could be the New Orleans Bowl since Conference USA will not have enough bowl eligible teams.
