College Football Rankings: Boise State Remains No. 5 In Coaches, AP Poll

New, 5 comments

The first big surprise in the coaches poll is that the Stanford Cardinal jumped the Oklahoma St. Cowboys to the No. 2 spot even though Stanford defeated the pathetic Oregon St. Beavers while Oklahoma State defeated the then-No. 19 ranked Kansas St. Wildcats. Last week Oklahoma State was only nine points ahead of Stanford, but now Stanford has a 19 point lead. That is basically identical but the change in position is peculiar compared to who they beat.

Boise State stayed at No. 5 and are stuck behind Alabama who are No. 4 and that means the BCS title hopes for Boise State are extremely out of reach. Boise is going to get some help in strength of schedule from TCU who is ranked at No. 24 and Georgia who is No. 18 and on tract to represent the SEC East in the SEC title game.

Here is the coaches poll:

Boise State comes in at No. 5 in the AP poll  and owns the other first-place vote that is not owned by LSU. TCU is on the outside looking in on the AP poll. Also, there is a possible split national title brewing with Oklahoma State No. 2 in the AP poll, but No. 3 in the coaches poll. We will know more tonight once the Harris Poll comes out and the BCS standings this evening.
