A lot has happened today regarding the Boise St. Broncos and their future conference affiliation. First, Boise State had a meeting with the Idaho State Board of Education voted 7-1 in favor of joining the Big East as a football-only member:
"We are certainly working on this day-by-day and I would think that by next week we should have a resolution," [Boise State President Bob] Kustra told the board.
Kustra also mentioned that a decision could come quickly, and that if Boise State was going to go to the Big East that they would go in with a Western partner. That partner is believed to be the Air Force Falcons, but Air Force has not had any meetings similar to Boise State about a potential league change.
As for the one vote that decided against Boise State from changing leagues is Idaho Vandal alum Bill Goesling and he tried to delay the vote, but no one seconded his motion to delay.
Having a Western partner is critical as Boise State projects football travel to be between $200,000 - $300,000 per season, also Boise State plans to join July 1, 2013 and that avoids the extremely high payout for giving less than a year's notice. All of this is assuming that Boise State would get an invite from the Big East.
If Air Force decides not to go East with Boise State, the San Diego St. Aztecs are floating their name out there to join the Big East as a football-only member. San Diego State also had previously sent out information to the Big 12 for admission in October.
San Diego State in the Big East? Hmm....
