Bowl Projections: Boise State To Sugar Bowl?

With the first official BCS standings out and enough of the college football season underway it is now a good time to predict and see where teams will be heading bowling for BCS bowls and the Mountain West in general. First up is the BCS bowl games if the season ended today, but these will obviously change since LSU and Alabama play each other as does Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

The order for BCS bowls this season goes Fiesta, Sugar, Orange, however before bowls can pick their at-large teams the bowl that loses teams to the title game get to pick first.

If the season ended today:

BCS Title game:

No. 1 LSU Tigers vs. No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide

Fiesta Bowl:

No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners vs. No. 5 Boise St. Broncos

Sugar Bowl:

No. 4 Oklahoma St. Cowboys vs. No. 10 Oregon Ducks

Orange Bowl:

No. 7 Clemson Tigers vs. No. 15 West Virginia Mountaineers

Rose Bowl:

No. 6 Wisconsin Badgers Vs. No. 8 Stanford Cardinal

That Fiesta Bowl would be a nice rematch of the 2007 Fiesta Bowl and a great opponent for Boise State. These projections have very, very little of happening since the the top four teams do play each other as mentioned above.

Here is my projections for the BCS once the season ends:

BCS Title game:

No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide vs. No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners

Fiesta Bowl:

Oklahoma St. Cowboys vs. Stanford Cardinal

Sugar Bowl:

LSU Tigers vs. Boise St. Broncos

Orange Bowl:

Clemson Tigers vs. West Virginia Mountaineers

Rose Bowl:

Oregon Ducks vs. Wisconsin Badgers

The last two spots come down to Stanford and Boise State and typically bowls do not want to take the same team multiple times and the Fiesta Bowl has taken Boise State twice in 2007 and 2010. However, Boise State travels very well each time they have been to the Fiesta Bowl. The Fiesta Bowl may want to change things up and invite Stanford and hope fans travel since it is close to their campus, and last year's low attendance numbers for Stanford at the Orange Bowl was due to a cross country trip.

If Boise does go to the Sugar Bowl it will give them a chance to face another SEC team, but how cool would it be to play Oklahoma State with their high powered offense.

Now here is how the rest of the Mountain West bowl tie-ins will possibly look like.

Las Vegas Bowl (MWC No. 1 vs. Pac-12 No. 5):

TCU Horned Frogs Vs. Utah Utes - Now this would be interesting.

New Mexico Bowl (MWC No. 5 vs. Pac-12 No. 7):

Colorado St. Rams  vs. Ohio Bobcasts (not enough Pac-12 teams)

Independence Bowl (MWC No. 3 vs. ACC No. 7)

Air Force Falcons vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Poinsettia Bowl (MWC No. 2 vs. WAC)

San Diego St. Aztecs vs. Nevada Wolfpack
