This sentence has been heard quite a few times over the past month: The Big East is expected to invite schools by the end of next week to shore up their league. However the Big East may mean it this time as they are expected to invite the Boise St. Broncos, Air Force Falcons, Navy Midshipmen, Central Florida Knights. The Big East has been split on adding Boise State, but now are looking at an invite.
These reports are coming from Brett McMurphy of CBSSports.com and the New York Post and McMurphy mentions that the final two invites will come down to the Houston Cougars, SMU Mustangs and the Temple Owls. Temple would join Air Force, Boise State and Navy as football-only members and that is due to Villanova not wanting to share the Philadelphia market.
The Big East also decided upon an exit penalty that satisfied the basketball and football schools. The buyout for basketball teams stays at $5 million, but the football schools agreed to a $10 million buyout. That solidarity is what would have held teams from joining the Big East in particularly with Navy.
Well, we will actually see if the Big East is seriously going to add any teams, because we have hard this routine the past month.
