Mike Locksley replies to the rumor that he is being fired and is being replaced by former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach.
Another altercation alleged against Mike Locksley. This was a verbal altercation:
UNM also released a statement: "We researched an alleged dialogue that occurred between our football coach Mike Locksley and a member of the media. After viewing the video with the Albuquerque Journal, they came to the identical conclusion of the athletic department that there was no story or wrongdoing on the part of coach Locksley."
Actual on the field news! Quarterback B.R. Holbrook will be out until October:
Holbrook underwent exploratory arthroscopic surgery this week on his left knee. Locksley says he's expecting for Holbrook to come back after the bye week. He's targeting the October 23rd home game against San Diego State for his return.
Locksely has yet to name a starter for Saturday's game but it will be between Brad Gruner and freshman Tarean Austin. Here is what Locksley says about the quarterback situation:
"The differences in Brad and Tarean is that Brad is a little more versed in designed quarterback runs. He's more versed in getting moving in the pocket and getting out on the edges. I think Tarean's a little more versed in our drop back passing concepts and also has the athleticism to give us something on the edge when things break down."
Expect Gruner to start with Austin to see some playing time this week.
