Story Lines To Watch At Mountain West Media Days

Media days are tomorrow (YES!) and I would be even more excited because our site would have been able to attend, but last minute stuff allowed for no one to attend.  Now onto business.  Here are some story lines to look for with media days the next few days.

  • Utah to the Pac-10 - Will Utah be looking past their final season in Mountain West and towards what awaits them in the Pac-10.  Coach Whittingham will shoot those questions down right away.
  • Who will be the surprise team - I am leaning heavily towards Air Force, but look for he media to ask this regarding who will be the 2010 version of Wyoming.
  • Automatic BCS status for the Mountain West - Will Boise State be enough to replace Utah and help earn them an auto bid toward BCS status.  I say yes since the ACC is below the MWC in two of the three criteria in the BCS formula.
  • Who wins the Mountain West - This is pretty obvious with TCU being the front runner, and should be the unanimous choice.  If there is to be any upset look for it to be Utah or Air Force.  The Utes get BYU and TCU at home while Air Force gets BYU at home and plays TCU very tough.
  • Freshman Quarterbacks - Two schools last year played freshman quarterbacks with Utah's Jordan Wynn and Wyoming's Austyn Carta-Samuels.  This year it looks to be BYU's Jake Heaps and Colorado State's Pete Thomas, but most of the talk will be on Jake Heaps.
  • Below is the schedule of events for Tuesday when the coaches and players hit the podium.  All of the sessions are going to be streamed on line either on TheMWC.com, The Mtn website, and of course here on this site once available.
