San Diego State has only one senior player but another senior got into the game tonight as well. Kelvin Davis, 2009 recipient of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association's "Most Courageous Award" for beating cancer and finishing his division I basketball career, played his final regular season home game tonight. The Aztecs finished the regular season 14-1 at home, the only loss a 2 point thriller against BYU.

Senior team manager Ben Kneller was cleared by the NCAA to play and also got into the game for the Aztecs and scored the only point of his career on a free throw. He air-balled his first attempt, but was able to make his second try. Kelvin Davis finished with 8 points but jacked up 10 3 balls and only hit two of them.

Kawhi Leonard came back from the flu that forced him to sit out most of the BYU game and led the team as usual. The Aztecs led wire to wire and the game was never really in any question. The game was essentially over at half-time as the Aztecs cruised to a 33-19 led at intermission.

Andy Ogide led the Rams effort with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Travis Busch was the only other Ram in double-digits with 11 points and 4 rebounds. Colorado State terribly in this game which was probably the biggest factor in why they did so poorly. They missed every 3 point shot they attempted in the first half (0-4) and only made 2 out of their 10 attempts in the second half to finish the game 2-14 or 14%. The Rams shot only 33.8% from the field and only hit 9 out of their 16 free throw attempts. Essentially, they had a really hard time putting the ball in the hoop, which is sort of essential when you are playing basketball.

Surprisingly though, the Rams actually kept up with the Aztecs in rebounding 32-32. The Rams also had 15 offensive rebounds to the Aztecs 10, who are probably considered to be the best rebounding team in the MWC. Ogide led the team with his 9 rebounds and nobody else had more than 4. Moral of the story is, the Rams need to shoot better if they have any prayer at competing in the MWC.

Kawhi Leonard was battling the flu last week and looked absolutely sick sitting on the sidelines during the loss to BYU in Utah. Tonight, however, Kawhi made Colorado State's defense look sick as he extended his own freshman school record with his 14th double-double of the season with 14 points and 15 rebounds and 3 assists. DJ Gay led the Aztecs with 16 points including hitting 4 of his 6 attempts from beyond the 3 point arc. DJ also dished out 4 assists. Malcolm Thomas, the second of the 3 big forwards for the Aztecs pulled down 8 rebounds to go with 10 points and 5 assists. He also had 2 blocks. The Aztecs hit 14 of 18 free throws which is a huge improvement over their usual performance. Learning to hit free-throws would be a huge boost for the Aztecs going into the post season. The Aztecs shot 47.9% from the field as a team.
