Is Gary Patterson In Minnesota's Top Three To Replace Fired Coach Tim Brewster?

On Oct. 17th, I mentioned that TCU's Gary Patterson might be contacted by Minnesota to replace fired coach Tim Brewster. Well, the St. Paul-Pioneer Press is reporting that a source has told them that Gary Patterson is in the Gophers top three to replace Brewster:

A little birdie says the Gophers have targeted, in order of priority, Boise State's Chris Petersen, Stanford's Jim Harbaugh and Texas Christian's Gary Patterson to replace the fired Tim Brewster.

... Patterson, signed through 2016 for a reported $2.5 million annually and without a buyout penalty, was seriously considered by the Gophers when they hired Brewster and didn't seem much interested then. His No. 3-ranked Horned Frogs are 9-0.

At least Minnesota is shooting for the stars in looking for a new head coach. As the article states, it would take a lot of cash for any of those three to leave a program they have built into legitimate college football powers.

These are the top three, but Minnesota has plenty of more candidates that have ties to Minnesota to choose from, and an under looked choice could be former Gopher assistant, current head coach at Houston Kevin Sumlin.

The Daily Gopher has a fun fan vote through a bracket to choose the next Minnesota head coach, and if you look closely Gary Patterson is not on the list, but Air Force head coach Troy Calhoun is.
