TCU And Central Florida Deny Being Contacted By Big East

Yesterday, the Big East unanimously agreed to start exploring expansion to get into 10 teams. The most prominent team to be mentioned was TCU plus others to be mentioned were Central Florida, Villanova, Houston, and Memphis. There could be other teams, but none have been mentioned by name.

Now, TCU Athletic Director Chris Del Conte has came out and said that he has not been contacted by the Big East. This is somewhat stunning since the Big East has been discussing TCU as an option since late in September.

Central Florida released a statement today pledging their allegiance to Conference USA:

"There has been no contact between UCF and the Big East Conference. We continue to be a proud member of Conference USA."

Both of these schools would be competitive in the Big East immediately. TCU obviously would be a title contender in year one and UCF would be in the upper third from the beginning. Plus, if the Big East's goal is to become more relevant in football then why even discuss Villanova. They are a good FCS school, but bring nothing to the table in the short term of the Big East.
