MWC Freshman of the Year candidate Kawhi Leonard once again dominated and led the Aztecs to victory on the road against the Colorado State Rams at Moby Arena. Leonard had a double-double in the first half and finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds. The Aztecs move to 4-3 in conference play while the Rams fall to 3-4. This leaves San Diego State two games off the pace of BYU at 6-1.
Both teams struggled shooting free throws but it was the Rams who struggled shooting 3s making just 2 of 15 including 0-5 in the second half. The Rams didn't shoot well in general either, hitting only 36.7% of their shots from the floor. Both teams also had a lot of turnovers, but it was the Rams who turned the ball over 4 more times to the Aztecs. (19 to 15).
Despite Leonard having the double double before half, he led the team in neither rebounds nor points at the end of the game. Rising star Malcolm Thomas led the team with 13 rebounds and added 5 points and 2 blocks. On the scoring end, guard DJ Gay led the team with 17 points and added 5 steals. Freshman guard Chase Tapley also tallied up double digits, scoring 12 points with 4 rebounds and 2 assists.
For the Rams, Andy Ogide led the way with 13 points and 3 rebounds. The only other player in double digits was Travis Franklin with 10 points and 7 rebounds; Travis tied for the team led in rebounds with Pierce Hornung.
