Utes Pick Up Crucial Win Over LSU

Exactly one year ago today, the Utes thumped a team from the SEC in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Today, they beat another SEC team in Louisiana, this time in Baton Rouge.  Although this win was not nearly as big, or even in the same sport; it is a crucial win for the Utah basketball team during their struggling season.

The Utes trailed by six at the half, and the LSU lead got up to 12 points early in the second half.  The Utes however, made a comeback and took the Tigers down to the wire.

Carlon Brown, whose role has been reduced due to him struggling, hit the game winning 3-pointer with just over a minute left in the game.  He finished with 12 points off the bench and 5 rebounds.

Luca Drca led the Utes in scoring with 14 points on 5-10 shooting.  He also had 5 assists and 2 steals.  Overall, this win was more of a balanced team effort.

LSU's Tasmin Mitchell and Storm Warren combined for 40 points and 21 rebounds.  They each had huge nights, but no one else made much of a difference.  Other than them, the team combined for just 19 points scoring.

This win for Utah is huge.  It puts them at (7-7) on the season, with a bit of momentum heading into conference play.  This was their first road win of the year, and came from a decent SEC team.  The Utes now have a 2 game win streak, which ties their record for this up and down season.

Up next they will face the TCU Horned Frogs at home on January, 9th to start their conference play.
